It may not seem like it from my vid, but I'm definitely looking forward to the full game! I'm very picky about indie horror and there's a lot of potential here that the demo didn't fully tap into, so it's great that you have a more fleshed out explanation of the game's projected content here as well as a trailer that gives a glimpse of how expansive and atmospheric the finished product might be. You have a good head for use of lighting and sound, the game looks fantastic and plays well. Just be mindful of pacing and when less is more. Good luck!
Welcome to Hanwell: Teaser
A downloadable game for Windows
This is a pre-alpha teaser! Please report bugs and send suggestions!
Play through Hanwell Jail, one of Hanwells many interior locations.
An open world psychological horror game set in a city in which your worst nightmares have become an everyday part of life.
The Hanwell Council of Public ProtectionWhen the anomalies first emerged, the Hanwell Council of Public Protection (HCPP) was formed to keep residents safe.
Providing equipment and expertise on prevention and preparation. With the help of the HCPP, Hanwell became one of the safest, if most inconvenient places on the planet. But the council has fallen, you try to carry on as normal, but failing equipment and lack of warning has become a major issue. In addition to this, you are being stalked by a mysterious individual who seems to be everywhere.
The rest of the world closed the gates and left Hanwell to rot. Thus begins your journey...
There is something deeply unsettling about Hanwell. Unexplained noises, something in the corner of your eye or laying just beyond the shadows create an atmosphere that will keep you constantly on edge.
Monsters, known in the game as Anomalies, roam the streets. They occasionally get into the once protected buildings. What you do with them is up to you, be resourceful and pick up whatever you can find in order to fight them, if you think you can handle it. Or run. And don't look back.
There is an entire city to explore, featuring different environments each more distinct than the last. From residential homes, old English pubs, parks, and a Jail, all the way to the infamous HCPP research center. Each location holds its own backstory, leading to your arrival. Upon which there will always be something happening.

Hey, this one should be working now.
I would rate this 11/10 , this game scared me really good ! I can't wait for the full release :D
I just finished this earlier today. And it is great. I love the gritty, dark and grim visuals. The lighting really adds to the atmosphere too. I'm also super curious about the open world stuff to come. The anomalies and the HCCP are very interesting as well and I'm looking forward to learning more about them.
You've got something awesome going here, Nathan! Can't wait to play the full game. :D
Sorry for the cut off on dropbox guys! I'm currently uploading to an alternative hosting service! Hold tight!
Looks awesome. I myself am about to do a walkthrough of this pre-alpha demo and ill post it here after words! Hopefully it helps get some hype going. After reading the comments i am fully prepared and have made a will should i die form this :p
I got scared. I might have even peed a little.
Thought this game was crazy cool. Can't wait to see more!
I made a video of my playthrough. I'm pretty fresh, but I appreciate anyone who took the time to watch.
The gaming community is by far the best bunch of people I have ever had the pleasure to serve! I cannot thank you all enough for the immense reaction the teaser has enjoyed. It really makes all the work worth it and then some.
I can't wait to show more of Hanwell and to get the game in your hands later this year! Thank you all so very much!
Welcome to Hanwell is truly a well-made demo for an indie horror game that everyone should be looking forward to playing. The demo itself does feature a handful of jumpscares and they are all well placed and well done.
The environment and graphics look absolutely gorgeous and the overall ambiance and atmosphere truly play up the horror experience.
Some drawbacks are that the demo is surprisingly short (hence why it's a teaser, not an actual demo), there isn't a whole lot to interact with and there are a few bugs involving the lady/monster. If you die, the monster tends to respawn right next to you, only for you to die again if you don't make any quick moves to get away.
Overall, the teaser version of this game delivers just enough to make you really look forward to playing a deeper, more fully fleshed out demo of Hanwell and it's something I can't wait to get my hands on again!
I made a Let's Play of Welcome to Hanwell so let me know what you think and I hope you enjoy the scares/laughs!
While the alpha is short on scares, it does carry quite an impactive atmosphere. Of course this is an alpha so the location being the generic "Scary Location" and the story given in the demo somewhat cliche, it still does a good job of showing off some of the enemies and tense aura this game hopes to amplify in the end product. In short it's not P.T. but it's a good lead up to the final product and I did have fun.
Keep up the good work guys. I'm going to keep watching.
Welcome to Hanwell has to be the scariest Pre Alpha 2017 I have played so far! Truly a magnificent game and very well designed! I look forward to seeing the end result to this game!
Thank you for sharing your game with us!
i can not download this game, it just stops instanlty... why?
Welcome to Hanwell boasts a creepy atmosphere, surprisingly polished visuals and art, haunting sound design and a few good old fashioned jumpscares. As a conceptual demo it really hit the right notes and we are very much looking forward to the full release. Good work Nathan!
I don't think i've found a demo for a game that excites me as much as this one! I loved it, and can't wait for the full release.
This game has a lot of potential and I haven't been scared like that in a long time! The ending was a bit strange I have to admit but definitely check it out guys! Great job to the developers, really impressed!
Excellent jeux d'horreur!
Still can't download this game! any idea why this is happening? I just downloaded 2 indie games from itch.io and it worked fine but when I try this it fails at the exact same spot every time.
Allow pop-ups for itch.io and it should work. If you're using the itch.io app it won't work. You have to do it on an internet browser.
Nah man, I turned off my Ad Blocker and I'm using the browser and theres no download,
I've got a small youtube channel and i'm very keen to play this, looks awesome. please get back to me about the best way to download
i could not download it , why
I have tried to download this game for like 2 days now, it gets to 1.7 out of 1.87 and it says network has failed even though I have downloaded multiple games minutes later and before. Not sure what is going on.
Edited: Tried again today and still couldn't download it.
Absolutely fantastic demo. The attention to detail is phenomenal and the sounds really creeped me out. I can't wait for the full game to come out and hopefully on Steam. It's short but an absolute must play.
I've done a playthrough on my YouTube channel. Hope you enjoy.
Welcome To Hanwell is an open world horror game coming out later this year. The small portion I played was absolutely amazing!! The pacing, jumpscares and atmosphere is tense, uncomfortable and just what the doctor ordered for indie horror. Had a lot of fun with this and cannot wait to see the finished product soon.
This sure has potential to become something great! Can't wait to see where this is headed!
Stay Rad Everybody!! :D
wow, just wow, this pre alpha demo is amazing and i wish i could be playing the full game now, the atmosphere was constant throughout the entire game, aside from the one bug i found this was amazing and i cant wait to have a copy of the full game! 10/10 would play again!
I was very impressed by this game the atmosphere feels right and the game is really fun to play. I was actually scared to look around corners! I can't wait to play the full game. This was the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. 10/10 WELL DONE!
*Rurr* Hello everyone, I played and enjoyed a bit of the demo, only can say, curious where the full game will take me!
Played your game, it gave me a few good jumpscares, congrats on making a very good looking game!
Also I'm sorry you lost Graham Foster, it's always really hard to lose some one you consider a second father. He's in a better place now!
NEW SILENT HILL GAME ? | Welcome to Hanwell: Teaser Pre-Alpha Demo Full Gameplay Walkthrough
AMAZING ATMOSPHERE FROM START TO FINISH. KEEP AN EYE ON THIS GAME IN 2017 !
Man I really wanna try this but the Download like doesn't work. My itch.io app client doesn't start the download, and from this webpage clicking download opens a popup saying the download will start shortly, but nothing. Is the file(s) still available as I really would like to try this for my channel?
Usually due to popup blocker. Try this link. Thanks!
Yes thank you. That link worked. However a popup blocker wouldn't explain why the itch.io client couldn't download it either. I don't use third party pop-up blockers only those built-in to modern browsers. However to test this I disabled the built-in blockers in Chrome, Internet Explorer, and as I use Windows 10, Edge browser. For Chrome, the website link worked and I got to your Dropbox link, but the itch.io client app still refuses to download the files. This may be an issue with itch.io themselves.
Many thanks for your reply. :)
Hey there! I know there's a file upload limit for new accounts on here, but I believe support will increase that limit if you ask: https://itch.io/support Just putting that out there in case the size of your game is why you link to it rather than having a proper upload on itch that we can install and manage through our clients/library.
Not a bad start for an early alpha, I can see with a little more time this could be pretty good! Glad to see Gollum too!
